General FAQs

What is The Drive?

The Drive is a mobile charitable network connecting donors, charities and advocates to raise money for great charitable causes. The Drive provides a unique giving experience to donors by allowing them to create charitable pledges based on the outcomes of sporting events and the performances of professional athletes.

Accessed via The Drive’s downloadable mobile app, donors have all the modern conveniences they expect: stored payment information, one-touch giving, social media connectivity, and world-class data and encryption security.

Donors can search, find and follow a charity, learn about its promoted causes, and then create a charitable pledge based on the outcomes relating to an upcoming sporting event. Let’s say, “$5 every time the Dallas Cowboys score a touchdown.” Upon confirmation of their pledge, donors can share their commitment to philanthropy via their social networks then sit back and enjoy the game knowing they’re making ‘Every Play Count.’ We like to call it the ‘Gamification of Giving.’

Donors are able to create pledges for one game, many games, or the entire season! As pledge activity is logged, donors have the ability to confirm balances owed and donate in just a few taps. The Drive fully automates all donation acknowledgement electronically via email and provides tools to help donors manage their annual gifting strategies.

The Drive is a game-changer for nonprofits and advocates looking to engage audiences year-round in a new, fun way. Every time your team wins, your community should too.

The Drive App is available for download in the Apple App Store and Android Google Play Store.

How does The Drive empower advocates to promote and support charities?

The Drive allows professional sports teams, professional athletes and corporations to create ‘advocate’ profiles. Within their advocate profile they can align with charities by embedding their promoted causes on their page. Users can search, find and follow their favorite advocates just like they can charity profiles.

Additionally, advocates are able to offer custom pledge triggers to followers who create charitable pledges using their performances. Instead of just runs, wins or touchdowns, allow fans to create pledges based on advanced stats like turnovers, rebounds, assists and strikeouts. There is no limit to the possibilities. Every play can truly make a difference.

How does The Drive make sure user information is secure and protected?

The Drive uses Stripe to process and store all payment information for donation processing. Stripe is certified as a PCI Level 1 Service Provider, the most stringent level of certification available. When a donor completes a donation through The Drive, we simply confirm the amount and pass Stripe the donors unique ID using a secure SSL protocol. Stripe processes the payment and debits the donor’s card. If you want to learn more about how critical payment information is handled, we recommend spending a minute on Stripe’s security overview page.

FAQs for Donors

How do charities receive donations?

The Drive allows donors to transact directly with the charities they’re supporting. By using Stripe Connect, we’ve allowed charities to integrate their own merchant accounts into The Drive. Stripe instantly credits charities’ accounts with donations and transfers funds within 24 hours to charities’ checking accounts. This explains why donors see the names of the charities they’ve supported on their bank statements.

Can I adjust or delete my pledge balance after completion?

Of course! The last thing we want you to experience is buyers’ remorse. With The Drive, you have full discretion; especially since you can’t truly predict the outcomes of the games you’re basing your charitable pledges on. Who knows, your team could play lights out or head into multiple overtimes.

What if I make a donation by accident, or use the wrong card for payment?

Because our registered charities use Stripe, donation refunds are very simple. Just email us at contact@thedriveapp.com within 2 days of making the original donation. We’ll coordinate with the underlying charity and help find a resolution. To help prevent disputed charges or refunds we require all donors to confirm pledge balances before transacting.

Who will send my donation acknowledgement for tax purposes?

The Drive is your one-stop shop when it comes to compliance and record keeping. After each transaction, The Drive will send you a donation receipt via email that will properly acknowledge your gift by listing the date, payment method, amounts gifted and charities who benefited. At year-end you will be emailed an annual contribution report to assist in your tax return preparation.
